Annual Silicon Shipments Hit Record High, Market Exceeds $10 Billion for First Time Since 2008

MILPITAS, Calif. – January 30, 2019 – Worldwide silicon wafer area shipments in 2018 increased 8 percent year-over-year to a record high, while 2018 worldwide silicon revenue jumped 31 percent during the same period, exceeding the $10 billion mark for the first time since 2018, reported the SEMI Silicon Manufacturers Group (SMG) in its year-end analysis of the silicon wafer industry.

SMIC reportedly to move 14nm process to volume production in 1H19

Semiconductor Manufacturing International (SMIC) is expected to enter volume production of chips built using 14nm FinFET process technology in the first half of 2019, fulfilling the first orders coming from the handset sector, according to media reports in China.
