America’s Lack Of Chips Is More Than A Blip
posted on July 17, 2021 09:01
Throughout my career, the United States has faced many competitiveness challenges, but few have alarmed me more than the ramifications of the recent semiconductor shortage. Our society is totally reliant on microelectronic technologies. They are fundamentally integrated into every industry, government, mode of transportation, energy supply and hospital, with bits of data and information constantly moving from one place to another. This exponential increase in their use is also causing a corresponding increase in the total energy consumption in microelectronics.

Taiwan, Ultimate Risk for China and the World, Semis Front and Center in the World
posted on June 24, 2021 18:03
Nothing good can come out of a China/Taiwan conflict for China or the world. For China, the risks are numerous and enormous. If they attempt to take over Taiwan, the conflict could extend from India, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, the US(which would probably involve Nato since they are allies by treaty) and their economies rely upon TSM chips like most of the world's economies.

AMD ON WHY CHIPLETS—AND WHY NOW
posted on June 24, 2021 18:02
Moore’s Law is not just a simple rule of thumb about transistor counts, it’s an economic, technical, and developmental force—and one strong enough to push some of the largest chipmakers to future-proof architectural approaches.
That force pushed some of AMD’s lead architects to reroute around the once-expected cadence of new technology development by pursuing a chiplet approach. We’ll get more to the reasons why and what they considered in a moment but first, it’s useful to lay the groundwork.
